So as of Sunday (April 1st) Global Payments is saying that “only” (their word, not mine) around 1.5 million accounts in North America are affected by the data breach the company suffered.  Small comfort and I’m not convinced the full story is yet known.  Yes, the facts are changing and no, we shouldn’t feel safe yet that one of us isn’t among the 1.5 million accounts.  Brian Krebs has another excellent post about this still evolving situation.  Go to: for his latest reporting.

And do keep track of this issue.  Visa announced it’s no longer going to list Global Payments as one of its preferred payment companies.  There will be, I’m sure, more emerging over the next few weeks as the companies involved —banks, Visa, MasterCard — get more and better information about which accounts have been affected.
